Changes for the 2025/26 Foundation Training (Pre-registration) Year Recruitment
The recruitment process for trainee foundation pharmacists (previously known as pre-reg pharmacists) is undergoing change.
Summer 2025 will see the first MPharm graduates aligned to the new GPhC learning outcomes, and the majority will enter foundation training to embark on Independent Prescribing as part of their foundation training year. This is an important milestone in the reform of Pharmacist initial education and training – for employers, educators and learners.
NHSE Worforce Training and Education team have attended national and regional events and meetings to communicate these key changes and to help people prepare. More communications are in plan for early 2024, but in the meantime, we encourage you to visit the Oriel/NRS site.
***Registration of employers for the 2025-26 cohort year will open on 11 January 2024 and close on 1st March 2024***

We would like to inform you of upcoming sessions available to contractors run by the Midlands Pharmacy NHSE WT&E team in preparation for registering your Foundation Pharmacy training programme on ORIEL (National Recruitment System).
NHSE WT&E will be hosting weekly drop-in sessions to support employers with practical queries related to the ORIEL system.
In addition, they will be offering webinars to employers explaining the Initial Education and Training of Pharmacists reform programme (IETP) and the changes to Foundation Pharmacy training in 2025-2026. During the webinar they will share links to resources where you can find further information and there will be an opportunity for questions and answers. They will repeat the webinar four times during January and March 2024 to enable colleagues to attend. You will only need to attend once but you are welcome to attend further should you have any questions.
