Community pharmacy technician training

Pharmacy technicians have a key role in supporting the team with this service. The Community pharmacy technician: enhancing your professional role programme supports pharmacy technicians to work with their teams to elicit the contributions that they can make to this service. The contributions will be different in different practice settings depending on staffing, facilities and volumes of services undertaken. These roles could include:

Working with the team to make sure that the people who use the pharmacy are given information about this service.
Engaging with GP receptionist to let them know what the pharmacy can offer.
Supporting the hypertension case finding service and pharmacy contraception service with weight, height, and BP readings.
Administration to support the treatment of shingles, impetigo, infected insect bites, earache, sore throat, sinusitis and uncomplicated UTIs in women.
The CPPE Community pharmacy technician: enhancing your professional role programme, will support pharmacy technicians with the skills that they need to support these new services.

Course information: The CPPE Community pharmacy technician: enhancing your professional role programme is open to community pharmacy technicians **bookings now open – extended for 12 months to March 2025

Perhaps for many a highlight of this course will be peer networking and support and meeting up with other pharmacy technicians at workshops.

The programme is made up of the following main components:

Four-month self-directed e-course
Initial meeting with an CPPE Education supervisor
Face-to-face workshop on clinical assessment skills (CAS)
Workplace practice of clinical assessment skill
Two-hour evening workshop for reflection in month four
Optional monthly one-hour peer support sessions
